Yin Yoga Class

with Martha Flanagan

Are you moving too fast? Doing too many things at one time? Too much "mind chatter" or just want to slow down. Yin yoga can provide an antidote for this. This class will guide you through a series of poses that are primarily done sitting and lying down. The poses are held for 2-5 minutes at a time to allow connective tissues (fascia, ligaments) to soften, lengthen and lubricate. A yin yoga practice compliments a yang practice and allows for a more balanced approach to life.

Join us the last Friday & the 2nd Sunday of every month
Free for members. $20 to drop in.

Sound Therapy: Singing Bowls & Gongs

Soung Healing Oyster Bay

“Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life” ~ Ludwig van Beethoven

If every sound is vibration and if the vibration touches each and every cell of our body, we can understand that we don't perceive sound only with the ears, but with every cell in our body.

Some benefits of Sound Therapy:

  • Stress reduction
  • Drops you into an effortless state of relaxation.
  • Helps to recover after illness, traumas and invasive medical treatments.
  • Helps to cope with life's challenges.
  • Improves sleep.
  • Reduces anxiety.
  • Can be transformative in helping you to unblock emotions.

In a typical gong bath setting, you lay down on mats with a pillow and blanket over you; close your eyes and just listen to the sound of the gong washing over you. Within 20 mins your body relaxes. Your body will do what it needs, from sleeping to having visualisations. The session is 90 minutes long. You often feel like 2 minutes have passed or a few hours
have passed. You wake feeling energized.

Roll & Restore

Jaqlin Medlock Photography

Yoga is the best, the greatest really...but do you ever feel like your body just can't manage another Warrior 2? Are you walking around with tightness that your usual exercise routine doesn't alleviate? In this workshop we'll explore targeted fascia release of the shoulders, back, and feet and get into rolling through some tight muscles that are always 'on' more than they're 'off'. After that I've got an hour long Restorative practice planned to give you more time and space to ground and relax. All levels welcome: everyone from 'I run marathons!' to 'what's fascia release?' Seriously, this workshop is to provide you tools to integrate into your daily life so we can all walk a little more easily and feel way more comfortable in our bodies. Come with questions or simply for a new experience.

Yoga Teacher's Class

oyster bay yoga teacher's class

A practice just for yoga teachers. Let's get together and support each other in our work. All teachers are welcome: new and veteran, OB Yoga, or otherwise...so bring a friend! I hope this will be a monthly (or every-other-monthly) opportunity for us to get together, share what we're working on in our teaching, and to make time to practice and receive.

4/28: I'll teach the first one! (Amy Basnight) I'll share what I'm working on in my Yoga Roots classes. Teaching beginners and mixed-level classes can be a unique challenge, and it'll be a nice opportunity to slow down (my theme for 2018!).

If you plan on coming, please RSVP on Facebook, and don't forget to invite any of your teacher friends that might be interested. Hope to see you all there :)
