August 2026 at Oyster Bay Yoga
Pessimism
Dear Yogis,
Pessimism sounds like a funny theme for a yoga studio, right? We’re all human and we all experience this feeling. With the summer days slowly leaving us, some of us are feeling this way. Maybe some of us have to start back at our jobs in September or maybe some of us are working toward a goal that’s taking a bit longer than we thought it should. When things aren’t going the ‘right’ way, we start to feel hatred. We start to question why we started in the first place. Well this month, let’s focus on how we can flip the script on this emotion. How can we see the glass as half full, rather than half empty? How can we try a difficult yoga pose that may be easier to some people than others and not have the internal dialogue of hating the pose (or the teacher calling out the pose!). When we start to think positively, positive results will come.
All my best,
Amy
Pose of the Month
Hanumanasana: Monkey/Split Pose
This month at the studio we breakdown
Hanumanasana: Monkey/Split Pose.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!
Sutra of the Month
Yoga Sutra 2.8 reminds us that we naturally avoid experiences that have caused us pain or discomfort. While this instinct can protect us, it can also keep us from growing if fear begins to shape our choices. Yoga encourages us to notice these patterns with compassion, helping us respond with awareness instead of reacting automatically. Through practice, we learn that discomfort doesn't always have to define our path forward.
Oil of the Month
Our August OOTM is:

Intentional Listening Circle
Sunday, September 27th
12:30-2:00pm
with Kaitlyn Pawlukojc
"I will ask you questions, I will try to understand, and if you give me your story, I will hold it in my hands . . . " Revolutionary Love, Ani DiFranco
Listening is an act of compassion -- for our own selves as well as for one another. In the practice of deep listening, we pause, become present to what is, and connect in new ways. The intention is to listen with the "ears of your heart."
When we speak aloud our stories, the words and emotions shared weave our lives together. This helps us remember that we are not alone and that we can learn from one another. The encouragement is to add your uniquely colored thread to the tapestry.
Please join us once a month to engage in loving listening as we grow our community together. The invitation is to bring what you have and ask for what you need. All are welcome!
FREE to attend (Registration is required)
