March 2026 at Oyster Bay Yoga

Growth

Dear Yogis,

Hi [%first_name | there%],

Growth rarely happens all at once. More often, it unfolds quietly with a small shift in our awareness. It’s in the way your breath feels a little fuller than it did last month, or how you respond with a bit more patience than you used to. It’s in the simple act of returning to your mat, even on the days when motivation feels low.

The yoga tradition teaches that the mind becomes steadier when we place our attention on something that truly inspires us. Not what impresses others, and not what we think we should be focusing on, but what genuinely feels meaningful. When we give our energy to something that uplifts us, the mind begins to settle naturally. From that steadiness, growth has room to take root.

This month, consider what inspires you right now. What feels supporting in your life? What sparks curiosity? Let that be your anchor.

All my best,
Amy

Pose of the Month

Vrksasana: Tree Pose

This month at the studio we breakdown
Vrksasana: Tree Pose.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!

Sutra of the Month

Yoga Sutra 1.39 teaches that the mind can become calm and focused by directing attention toward something that truly inspires us. Rather than prescribing a single method of meditation, this sutra offers a spacious and compassionate approach: choose an object of focus that feels meaningful to you. When the heart is engaged, concentration flows more naturally, and the mind begins to settle without force.

This teaching reminds us that clarity doesn’t have to come from rigid discipline alone. By anchoring our awareness in something that evokes sincerity, reverence, or connection, we create the conditions for inner stability to arise. In this way, inspiration becomes more than a feeling. It becomes a pathway to calm, clarity, and deeper self-understanding.

"I will ask you questions, I will try to understand, and if you give me your story, I will hold it in my hands . . . " Revolutionary Love, Ani DiFranco

Listening is an act of compassion -- for our own selves as well as for one another.  In the practice of deep listening, we pause, become present to what is, and connect in new ways.  The intention is to listen with the "ears of your heart."

When we speak aloud our stories, the words and emotions shared weave our lives together.  This helps us remember that we are not alone and that we can learn from one another.  The encouragement is to add your uniquely colored thread to the tapestry.

Please join us once a month to engage in loving listening as we grow our community together.  The invitation is to bring what you have and ask for what you need.  All are welcome!

Desire

Dear Yogis,

Desire shows up everywhere in real life. We feel it when we want a moment to last longer, when we cling to a relationship, a routine, a feeling, or even a version of ourselves because it once brought us comfort or joy. Desire itself isn’t the problem. The tension comes when we start believing that our happiness depends on holding on, even as life keeps changing around us.

This is a gentle reminder to enjoy what’s sweet without gripping it too tightly. Just like on the mat, when we stay present with a pose but let go when it’s time, off the mat we’re invited to appreciate life as it is. Trusting that peace comes not from controlling the experience, but from meeting each moment with openness, curiosity, and a little more ease.

All my best,
Amy

Pose of the Month

Anahatasana: Melting Heart /Extended Puppy

This month at the studio we breakdown
Anahatasana: Melting Heart/Extended Puppy.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!

Sutra of the Month

Yoga Sutra 2.7 teaches that attachment (rāga) arises when we cling to experiences that bring us pleasure and comfort. While enjoyment itself isn’t a problem, suffering begins when we hold too tightly—wanting things to stay the same, fearing their loss, or believing our happiness depends on them. This sutra gently reminds us that lasting peace comes from learning to appreciate pleasure without becoming attached to it, allowing us to move through life with more freedom and ease.

Oil of the Month

Our February OOTM is:

Lavender Oil

“Organic Lavender offers the same calming and skin-loving properties as our traditional Lavender, with the added assurance of USDA Certified Organic purity. Its serene, herbaceous-floral aroma helps quiet the mind, ease tension, and promote deep relaxation, making it perfect for diffusing before bedtime or creating a peaceful atmosphere anytime.”

Peace

Dear Yogis,

With the busyness of the holidays behind us, a new year brings a welcome sense of peace. It’s the perfect time to reconnect with our priorities and gently refocus on what we’d like to cultivate as we move into 2026. With this in mind, let us not forget what yoga teaches us every day. On the mat, that may look like listening to your body, letting go of comparison, or choosing rest when you need it. Off the mat, it shows up in the way we speak, act, and care for one another.

May this year be less about rushing forward and more about moving through life with a deep sense of inner peace.

All my best,
Amy

Sutra of the Month

Yoga Sutra 2.35 teaches that when we are firmly rooted in non-violence (ahimsa), hostility around us naturally dissolves. In simple terms, when our thoughts, words, and actions come from kindness we create a sense of peace that others can feel. This sutra reminds us that peace isn’t something we force. It grows from how we choose to show up in the world, starting with compassion toward ourselves and extending outward to everyone we meet.

Its lively scent adds a refreshing touch to diffuser blends and DIY creations alike.

When properly diluted, Organic Pink Grapefruit helps purify congested or oily skin, minimize the appearance of blemishes, and restore a healthy-looking glow. Add it to a carrier oil or cream for a naturally balancing toner that leaves skin feeling clean and refreshed.”

Joy

Dear Yogis,

As we move through the holiday season, we are considering joy as an inner state, not an outer circumstance.

Joy doesn’t rely on the perfect moment, the perfect gift, or even the perfect practice. Instead, it grows quietly within us each time we breathe with intention, move with presence, and choose to meet life with an open heart.

This month, let your practice be a gateway to the simple joys found in a moment of stillness or the peaceful pause between breaths. Joy is already within you, yoga simply helps you remember where to look.

Let’s move through the holiday season this December with extra softness and gratitude.

All my best,
Amy

Sutra of the Month

Yoga Sutra 1.36 teaches that calmness and clarity arise when we focus the mind on a steady inner point. This is often described as the light within the heart. This sutra reminds us that even when life feels busy or overwhelming, there is always a place of stillness inside us we can return to. By directing our attention to this inner light through breath, meditation, or simply pausing we invite stability and a sense of joy to surface naturally. It’s a gentle reminder that peace isn’t something we have to chase, it already lives within us.

Oil of the Month

Our December OOTM is:

Peppermint Oil

“Few aromas are as instantly recognizable as Peppermint. Its crisp, minty scent delivers an invigorating rush that awakens the senses and promotes focus when energy starts to dip. Perfect for moments when you need to feel refreshed and alert, this versatile oil also provides a natural cooling sensation when applied topically, ideal for soothing tired muscles or easing tension in the head and neck. Simply dilute with a carrier oil and enjoy its comforting, cooling touch. Inhaling Peppermint can also help settle feelings of nausea and support clear, easy breathing, making it a must-have for everyday wellness.”

“Yoga helps us to remove all obstructing (mental) clouds, so that we may come to enjoy the sunshine within.  It is an extensive program of reeducation through which we learn, step by step, to live the light of our true nature.  Only when we have truly found ourselves will we be able to live in peace, harmony, and happiness in the world.” - Georg Feuerstein

Consider deepening your personal practice by engaging yoga as a way of life.  Every second Sunday from 2-4pm, we gather to create sacred community by grounding in our breath, gently moving our bodies, settling into our hearts, and listening for our inner knowing.  This experience of mindful inquiry encourages you to show up for yourself and one another as we explore the spiritual in every day life.  Your level of participation is up to you as we honor the Light and Love within and among us all.

Registration is required to attend. This event is FREE.
We gratefully welcome donations to help sustain and grow the Women's Circle, ensuring it remains an ongoing space for connection and healing.

Benevolence

Dear Yogis,

As the autumn chill really starts to settle in, it’s the perfect time to lean into a little extra kindness, both for yourself and everyone around you. This month, we’re embracing benevolence, or the simple, heart-centered practice of doing good, feeling good, and spreading good. Benevolence isn’t always a grand gesture, sometimes even the smalls acts of care ripple out in big ways! Let's lead every day with acts of compassion, whether it be through a warm smile, a helping hand, or a moment of understanding.

All my best,
Amy

Pose of the Month

Salamba Bhujangasana: Spinx Pose

This month at the studio we breakdown
Salamba Bhujangasana: Spinx Pose.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!

Sutra of the Month

Yoga Sutra 3.24 teaches that real strength comes from kindness, compassion, and love. When we lead with a good heart (being friendly, patient, and understanding) we build an inner strength that helps us stay grounded no matter what life throws our way. The more we practice kindness toward others (and ourselves), the more calm and connected we feel. It’s a simple reminder that being a good human is one of the most powerful things we can do.

Oil of the Month

Our Novmeber OOTM is:

It is made up of the pure, undiluted essential oils of Lavender, Marjoram, Mandarin, Patchouli, Bourbon Geranium, and Chamomile Roman. Exploration

Dear Yogis,

As the air turns crisp and the leaves start to change, it’s the perfect season to slow down and explore what’s happening inside. Yoga Sutra 3.5 reminds us that when we quiet the outside noise and turn inward, a natural clarity begins to shine. Exploration doesn’t have to mean packing a bag. It can be noticing your breath on a cool morning walk, feeling the stretch in a new pose, or just sipping tea and listening to your own thoughts. This fall, let curiosity guide you, and see what inner discoveries unfold.

All my best,
Amy

Pose of the Month

Surya Yantrasana: Compass Pose

This month at the studio we breakdown
Surya Yantrasana: Compass Pose.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!

Sutra of the Month

In Yoga Sutra 3.5, Patanjali reminds us that when we quiet the senses and turn inward, a natural light of understanding begins to shine. By stepping back from constant sights, sounds, and distractions, we create space for deeper clarity and insight to surface. It’s like dimming the outside noise so our inner wisdom can speak. This isn’t about shutting the world out, but about giving ourselves moments of stillness where awareness can expand and guidance feels clearer.
