Listening

Dear Yogis,

Yoga isn’t just about moving through postures, it’s also about how we move through the world. In Sutra 2.36, Patanjali introduces Satya, the practice of truthfulness. While we often think of truth as something we speak, Satya also calls us to listen, to ourselves and to others, with honesty and presence.

Listening deeply means we’re not simply waiting for our turn to talk; we’re holding space for another’s truth. When we truly listen, we show up with integrity, curiosity, and care. This kind of attention reflects a commitment to truth, not just in words, but in action and intention.

This month, consider how you listen. Can you soften your responses, quiet your inner dialogue, and hear what’s being shared beneath the surface? Listening, like yoga, is a powerful practice.

All my best,
Amy

Sutra of the Month

This sutra teaches that when we live and speak with unwavering truthfulness, our words and actions gain power and clarity. Satya, or truthfulness, isn't just about being honest, it’s about aligning what we say, do, and believe. When we speak from a place of deep integrity, our words carry weight and our efforts bear fruit. Practicing Satya requires self-awareness, compassion, and the courage to be clear and kind, even when it’s uncomfortable.

“Yoga helps us to remove all obstructing (mental) clouds, so that we may come to enjoy the sunshine within.  It is an extensive program of reeducation through which we learn, step by step, to live the light of our true nature.  Only when we have truly found ourselves will we be able to live in peace, harmony, and happiness in the world.” - Georg Feuerstein

Consider deepening your personal practice by engaging yoga as a way of life.  Every second Sunday from 2-4pm, we gather to create sacred community by grounding in our breath, gently moving our bodies, settling into our hearts, and listening for our inner knowing.  This experience of mindful inquiry encourages you to show up for yourself and one another as we explore the spiritual in every day life.  Your level of participation is up to you as we honor the Light and Love within and among us all.

Registration is required to attend. This event is FREE.
We gratefully welcome donations to help sustain and grow the Women's Circle, ensuring it remains an ongoing space for connection and healing.
